Though the world might be ruled by capital, each person shouldn’t be. I certainly don’t want to have my life ruled by money concerns. This is my impetus for being Frugal Jon. I want to live without money stress as my paramount concern. This doesn’t mean deprivation, only a rearranging of financial priorities. The goal of my blog is to share frugal tips and strategies while showing that you can be frugal and live life to its fullest.
That point bears reiterating: frugality is not depravity. It’s a matter of orienting a very finite resource towards it’s most efficient use. Would it make sense to pump gasoline directly into the ground rather than into your gas tank? Many people I know do the equivalent with their hard earned money. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel, I’m not a finance expert. I know that investing in low cost index funds over a long period of time puts that finite resource to work passively. This makes up the core of my personal finance philosophy. I’m still going to spend money on things that I find value in.
So who am I exactly? Well as I start this blog, I’m entering my final semester of an engineering graduate program. I can’t wait to write more about my college experience, where I managed to get through undergrad and grad school without taking out any loans or accepting any money from family. I’m newly married, so my wife and I are putting our lives together. Getting married during the pandemic restrictions took some adjusting, but we’re both so glad that we didn’t wait any longer. In the near future, I’ll be writing about topics related to getting my adult life together, financially and in other ways. So join with me, and let’s get frugal!
